An aviation disaster that shook the world: only one person survived out of 242 on board a Boeing 787. The incredible story of survival of 40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, who crawled out of the wrecked plane, is reported by infohub.kz.
The crash is the largest in civil aviation history with only one survivor among those on board. The tragedy occurred on June 12, 2025. The Boeing 787, carrying 229 passengers and 12 crew, took off from Ahmedabad airport in India, but about 30 seconds after takeoff the plane crashed into a dormitory of a medical college.
The only survivor was Vishwash Kumar Ramesh. Despite the severe crash, he regained consciousness after impact, unbuckled his seatbelt, and crawled out through a hole in the fuselage. His injuries were not life-threatening, and he was discharged from the hospital days later.
"There were bodies and debris around me. I was scared, got up, and ran. But people grabbed me, put me in a car, and took me to the hospital," the survivor said.
According to investigators, his survival was not due to sitting in the tail section, often considered the safest, but seat 11A near an emergency exit in the front. During the crash, the nose was raised, and the main impact hit the tail, significantly increasing his chances.
The final cause of the crash has not yet been determined. The investigation is ongoing. According to a preliminary report published in July 2025, shortly after takeoff, the fuel supply switches were inexplicably turned off, causing both engines to lose thrust. Later, the switches were returned to RUN mode, and one engine began to recover, but the plane was too low to prevent the crash.
