Kazakhstan has written off fines and penalties totaling 9.3 billion tenge, reports infohub.kz.
Vice Minister of Finance Yerzhan Birzhanov announced this at a government meeting. The measure, part of the 'Clean Sheet' initiative, affected 19,000 small and micro-business entities.
During the reporting period, the 'People's Accountant' campaign took place, providing consultations to over 61,000 taxpayers. Over six months of the current year, about 546,000 individuals who were not previously registered were legalized.
According to Birzhanov, the number of business entities including self-employed reached 2.9 million. The number of value-added tax (VAT) payers increased by 22,300 to 158,200.
Tax revenues for the first half of 2026 amounted to 8.3 trillion tenge, achieving 100.3% of the target. Compared to the same period last year, they increased by more than 29%, or 1.9 trillion tenge.
Since 2026, Kazakhstan has implemented a new Tax Code that raised the VAT rate from 12% to 16%, lowered the threshold for mandatory VAT registration, and revised several tax incentives. The government expects these measures to increase tax revenues.
