Aktau police: no rush for '362' plates; from 2026 drivers can choose numbers

Police in Aktau have rejected viral claims of long queues for the “362” license plate series and clarified how Kazakhstan’s new pick-your-number rules, effective 1 January 2026, will operate to make the process more transparent.

This was reported by the Infohub.kz news agency.

What sparked the rumor

Clips shared on local Instagram pages showed motorists allegedly waiting specifically for plates featuring the digits “362,” which some residents associate with the Mangystau region. The posts suggested surging demand for that combination.

Police response

The Mangystau Regional Police Department said there is no rush and plates are issued in the general queue as usual. Officials added that drivers often seek combinations linked to birthdays, micro-district numbers or personal preferences, but issuance follows standard procedures.

How the new rules work

From 1 January 2026, motorists across Kazakhstan can choose desired letter and/or numeric combinations for state registration plates. The fee for standard selections is set at 10–15 AEK, while high-demand special categories are processed under separate tariffs.

Where to apply

KazAvtoZhol has reminded drivers that its 1403 call center does not reserve license numbers. Selection and issuance are handled through specialized public service centers (SPSCs).

Why “362” matters locally

Community members often link “362” with Mangystau’s historical and cultural identity. Authorities emphasize the combination carries no official advantage; all choices are made under the same rules and availability.

Why it matters

By addressing the social media claims and outlining the new framework, officials aim to curb speculation, regulate demand and improve transparency around plate selection in 2026.
