Astana LRT Unveils Route: 18 Stations and Launch Details Revealed
The much-anticipated Astana Light Rail Transit (LRT) system has officially unveiled its station names and route map, offering a clear picture of its planned network. City Transportation Systems (CTS) confirmed that the new line will feature a total of 18 stations.
Extensive Route Planned
The LRT route is designed to connect key areas of the capital, traversing the left bank and extending into several districts on the right bank. The line will originate from Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport and conclude at the "Nurly Zhol" railway station, facilitating travel across major business hubs and residential areas.
Construction and Funding Continue
While the route details are now public, CTS is actively seeking funding sources to continue the construction of the new line. Previously, Asylbek Dyusembaev, Chairman of the Board of CTS, had discussed ambitious plans to extend the LRT to Kenesary and Zhenis streets on the right bank, and even to the old train station.
Imminent Launch and Fare Information
The CTS has informed journalists that the first passengers could begin using the light rail system as early as this week, specifically on May 16-17. To access the platforms, passengers will need to purchase a ticket or a reusable transport card. The fare for a single journey is set at 200 tenge.
This development marks a significant step forward for public transportation in Astana, promising improved connectivity and convenience for residents and visitors alike.
