Iran Launches Ballistic Missiles in Retaliation for U.S. Strikes
Iran has launched ballistic missiles in response to recent U.S. military actions, marking a significant escalation in regional tensions. The strikes by Iran targeted locations in the Middle East, including areas near Kuwait and Bahrain.
U.S. Military Actions
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that American forces conducted strikes against Iranian radar stations on Goruk and Qeshm islands. These actions were reportedly taken to deter further Iranian aggression, following Iran's launch of drones towards the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM stated that four Iranian drones heading towards the Strait of Hormuz were destroyed, as they posed a threat to maritime navigation in the crucial waterway.
Iran's Response
In retaliation, Iran reportedly launched seven ballistic missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain. According to CENTCOM, six of these missiles were intercepted, while the seventh failed to reach its target. This exchange follows earlier reports on June 5th of U.S. forces intercepting Iranian ballistic missiles and drones aimed at the Strait of Hormuz and countries bordering the Persian Gulf.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that Iranian forces retaliated against U.S. military bases in the Middle East and fired upon four tankers attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without authorization. This marks another significant exchange of fire between Iran and the U.S. in recent weeks.
Earlier in the week, Tehran claimed responsibility for an attack on a U.S. destroyer, stating it was in response to an earlier assault on vessels in the Gulf of Oman.
