Karaganda Residents Protest High-Rise Construction Near Private Homes
Residents in a suburban district of Karaganda are raising strong objections to the construction of a multi-story residential complex planned for their neighborhood. The development, situated adjacent to existing private homes, has sparked significant concern among locals who fear it will disrupt their quality of life.
Concerns Over Sunlight and Tranquility
The preparation work for the construction site has been underway for about a week, but homeowners say they were not informed about the nature of the development. It was only when the fencing began to approach their properties that residents sought answers. They learned from the construction foreman that a 12-story residential building is planned.
"I would understand if they built an 11 or 12-story building next to a nine-story one. But I don't understand building a high-rise next to private homes. It's always been private homes here," expressed one frustrated resident. "We thought we were living a quiet, peaceful life on the outskirts of the city. Why do the projects always change? Where is the Akimat (city administration) looking?"
Project Changes and Flood Risks
According to the residents, the initial plan was to build a five-story building, which they found acceptable. However, the land was reportedly sold to a new company that altered the project to include a much taller structure, leading to the current backlash. Adding to their worries, the area is prone to flooding from melting snow in the spring.
"We, the entire neighborhood, dug ditches and created a drainage system here. Now it's all been removed. In the spring, the water will come directly to our houses," another resident explained. "If there's a tall building in front of us, we won't get any sunlight. Imagine: a 14-story building outside your window – we will never see the sun. There will be 200-300 apartments, all those people will come out onto the street, garbage, cars – everything will be here. We won't be able to leave our homes."
Construction Company Responds
Representatives from the construction company have urged residents not to worry prematurely, stating that details about the final building are not yet confirmed. Currently, only geological surveys and coordination with relevant authorities are in progress.
"Temporary fencing is being erected on this site; there is no project clarification yet. This is because project approval and research with the relevant parties are ongoing. Nothing is being built at the moment, only the fence is being installed," a company representative clarified.
Akimat's Statement
The city administration confirmed that documents for the construction of a residential complex ranging from 6 to 12 stories have been received from the company and are currently under review. The administration also noted that residents' opinions will be considered when a decision is made.
