Kazakhstan Eliminates Fees for Minor Air Ticket Name Corrections

Kazakhstan has introduced a significant change for air travelers, eliminating fees for correcting minor errors on flight tickets. This new regulation, initiated by the Transport Prosecutor's Office of Astana, aims to enhance passenger convenience and streamline the travel process.

Free Corrections for Minor Errors

Effective from the beginning of 2026, passengers will be able to correct small mistakes in their names, surnames, or patronymics on air tickets without incurring any charges. This applies to errors involving up to two letters.

Addressing Passenger Complaints

The initiative stems from numerous complaints lodged by citizens regarding previously charged services for these minor corrections. These small errors, which did not impede passenger identification, often led to additional payments or fines during check-in.

Airline Data and New Procedures

Data from 2025 reveals that Qazaq Air (now operating under the Vietjet Qazaqstan brand) processed 3,815 passenger data modifications, predominantly for simple, two-letter errors. Following a meeting between the Astana Aviation Transport Prosecutor's Office and airline management, the new, free correction procedure was established.

Reducing Pre-Flight Hassles

The Prosecutor's Office highlighted that this decision is intended to reduce stressful situations before flights and improve the overall quality of service for passengers. While minor typographical errors are now free to fix, significant discrepancies in ticket information will still be subject to the airline's standard verification and potential fees.
