Kazakhstan Entrepreneur Arrested After Free Shoe Giveaway Sparks Chaos
An entrepreneur in Oskemen, Kazakhstan, has been arrested for petty hooliganism after a promotional event for his new shoe store spiraled out of control.
The incident occurred on April 11, 2026, when the businessman planned to give away 100 pairs of shoes to celebrate the opening of his store. However, the event quickly devolved into chaos as the number of attendees far exceeded the available footwear, leading to significant public disorder.
Police Investigation Launched
Authorities were called to the scene and launched an investigation into the event. Police determined that the disorganized and uncontrolled gathering of citizens posed a threat to public order and safety.
Charges and Sentencing
Following the investigation, the organizer was held accountable under Article 488-1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Kazakhstan for violating the procedure for holding entertainment and cultural mass events. He was initially fined 20 MCI (approximately 86,000 tenge). Subsequently, he was also charged with petty hooliganism. A court decision resulted in a 5-day detention for the entrepreneur.
Police officials emphasized the importance of adhering to legal requirements when organizing large-scale public events to ensure the safety and order of attendees.
