Temporary disruptions to internet services in Kazakhstan were caused by damage to a main fiber optic communication line during construction work. The Ministry of Digital Development confirmed the incident, which affected access to some online resources.

Cable Damage During Construction

According to Kaztelecom, the incident occurred when a cable, crucial for a significant international internet traffic route, was damaged. This happened amidst ongoing construction activities.

Mitigation and Restoration Efforts

To minimize the impact of the damage, specialists quickly rerouted traffic to backup networks, ensuring continued internet accessibility for users. Restoration work is currently in progress to fully repair the damaged section. The ministry stated that the technical failure was a result of excavation work damaging the communication line.

This incident highlights the vulnerability of critical digital infrastructure to external physical disruptions.
