Kazakhstan Tax Authority to Notify Citizens via Banking Apps

Kazakh citizens may soon receive tax notifications about mobile transfers directly within their banking applications. This new communication channel is being explored by tax authorities to enhance information delivery.

Expanding Notification Channels

Currently, the primary method for tax authorities to inform individuals and sole proprietors about their obligations is through the taxpayer's personal cabinet. However, Vice Minister of Finance Yerzhan Birzhanov indicated that banking applications are being considered as a future channel for these important alerts.

"We will also explore notifications through banking applications," stated the official, suggesting a move towards more accessible and integrated communication methods.

Understanding Tax Scrutiny on Mobile Transfers

Birzhanov also reminded taxpayers that the analysis of mobile transfers is not based on a single indicator. Instead, tax authorities employ a comprehensive approach, examining multiple criteria.

"The rules are unified. We have talked about them several times before. Individual criteria are not considered. They are considered comprehensively. Only when all three criteria are met are such operations considered risky, and banks provide information on this data," he explained.

Key Criteria for Risk Assessment

Previously, it was reported that banks were required to submit data on mobile transfers for the first quarter to tax authorities by April 15. The fiscal authorities are specifically interested in situations where three criteria are met simultaneously:

The Ministry of Finance has emphasized that there will be no automatic fines. Tax authorities will first issue a notification and request explanations before making a decision on a specific case. Taxpayers will have 30 working days from the date of receiving such a notification to respond.

This initiative aims to improve transparency and compliance by leveraging existing digital infrastructure for tax-related communications.
