Kazakhstan's Interior Ministry Tightens Oversight on Personnel
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) in Kazakhstan has announced a significant tightening of oversight and discipline for its personnel. This directive comes after a collegial meeting reviewing the operational results of the first quarter of 2026.
Strengthening Internal Control
During the meeting, Minister Yerzhan Sadenov issued several key directives aimed at reinforcing service discipline and enhancing control over staff. The focus is on ensuring accountability for every infraction and maintaining a high standard of conduct across the ministry.
Key Areas of Focus
The minister emphasized the need to strengthen work in several critical areas. These include developing migration control, improving the penal system, reinforcing departmental education, and enhancing the capabilities of the National Guard. Additionally, strengthening military and combat readiness was highlighted as a priority.
Accountability for Leaders
A core component of the new directives is the increased personal responsibility of leaders. They will be held accountable for the discipline and performance outcomes within their respective areas of command. This move signals a commitment to ensuring that leadership is directly involved in maintaining standards.
Crime Reduction Trends
Despite the internal focus, the ministry also reported positive trends in crime reduction. In the reporting period, crime rates decreased by 9%, equating to 2,150 fewer crimes compared to the same period in 2025. This reduction was observed across major crime categories, including those against individuals and property offenses.
Specific decreases were noted in crimes committed by recidivists, minors, individuals under the influence, and in public and domestic settings. The ministry also highlighted a reduction in internet-based fraud, with an improved detection rate for such offenses. Scams involving account breaches, cryptocurrency, online loans, and fake websites have seen a decline.
Preventing Minor Offenses
Over 3.6 million administrative offenses were intercepted, preventing them from escalating into more serious crimes. As part of the 'Clean Kazakhstan' campaign, more than 722,000 offenses were identified, and over three thousand illegal dumpsites were cleared. In road safety, more than 3 million traffic violations were addressed.
This comprehensive approach aims to bolster both internal discipline and public safety across Kazakhstan.
