Life Sentences Sought for 15 in Crocus City Hall Attack

In the ongoing trial for the devastating terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall in Russia, prosecutors have requested severe penalties for the accused. The prosecution is seeking life imprisonment for a significant number of the defendants, signaling the gravity of the charges.

Life Sentences Requested

The Prosecutor General's Office has called for life sentences for 15 out of the 19 individuals on trial. These sentences are to be served in a special regime penal colony. The four individuals identified as directly carrying out the attack are Shamsidin Fariduni, Dalerjon Mirzoev, Muhammadsobir Fayzov, and Saidakrami Rachabalizoda. Life sentences have been requested for these four, as well as for 11 others accused of aiding them.

Sentencing for Accomplices

For the remaining four defendants, the prosecution is seeking prison terms exceeding 20 years. In total, 19 individuals are facing charges, with 13 accused of terrorism and the others of aiding terrorist acts. Over 2,000 individuals have been recognized as victims in the case.

Background of the Attack

The attack on Crocus City Hall occurred on March 22, 2024, in Krasnogorsk, near Moscow. Armed assailants entered the building, opening fire on civilians and setting a fire. Official reports indicate that 149 people lost their lives and over 600 were injured, with one person still missing. Investigations suggest the involvement of the "Vilayat Khorasan" group, affiliated with the Islamic State, in organizing the assault. The case materials also mention the possibility of involvement by foreign special services, though the ultimate organizers remain unidentified.
