Mother and Son Make History at Milan Olympics in First-Ever Joint Competition
A truly unprecedented moment has occurred at the Winter Olympics in Milan, where for the very first time in the history of the Games, a mother and son have competed side-by-side.
This remarkable event features Mexican alpine skiers Sara Schleper and her 18-year-old son, Lasse Hahjola. The pair made history by participating in the same competition, marking a unique milestone for the Olympic Games.
Meet the Athletes
Sara Schleper, a seasoned athlete at 46 years old, finished her race in 26th place. Her son, 18-year-old Lasse Hahjola, also participated but was unable to complete the course, exiting the competition early.
Sara Schleper's Inspiring Comeback
Schleper has a notable career, having previously represented the United States. After retiring from the sport in 2011, she made a powerful return to competitive skiing in 2015, this time competing for Mexico.
Her participation also places her among the oldest female alpine skiers to ever compete in the Winter Olympics, adding another layer to her extraordinary Olympic journey.
