In Istanbul, a 58-year-old woman shot and killed her 25-year-old daughter-in-law after suspecting her of infidelity, reports infohub.kz.
The tragedy occurred in the Şişli district. According to Turkish media, Menekse K. shot Burcin Sahin twice in the head with a pistol. Paramedics arriving at the scene could only confirm her death. Police found two shell casings outside the house and four more inside.
The victim leaves behind two children. Her husband, Haydarcan K., has been serving a prison sentence for theft for the past six years. During his incarceration, Burcin lived with her mother-in-law.
According to local reports, Menekse K. suspected her daughter-in-law of cheating after seeing messages on her phone. The same day, an argument erupted between them.
After her arrest, the suspect said: "I said, 'How can you cheat on my son? You have children, aren't you ashamed?' Then she answered rudely, 'I will do it.' Enraged, Menekse fired."
Following the killing, the woman went out onto the balcony and declared, "I killed my daughter-in-law and purified my honor." She smoked for a while, then the victim's brothers took the children, and she remained next to the body.
The investigation revealed that Menekse K. had a prior conviction for drug trafficking and was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison.
Such crimes are known as "honor killings" in Turkey. Victims are often women whom relatives suspect of behavior that supposedly brings shame on the family. Despite stricter laws, these cases continue to occur, especially in conservative regions.
