Nine months have passed since 20-year-old Anatoly Filippov, a student at North Kazakhstan University, disappeared from his dormitory in Petropavl. The search for him continues.

Anatoly Filippov was last seen on the evening of May 4, 2025, around 9:30 PM. He was a third-year student majoring in chemistry and biology at Kozybayev University and resided in a university dormitory in Petropavl.

His relatives recount that he returned to the dormitory after a holiday break. "He had brought many packages of food and gifts from home. His mother tried to contact him on Monday and Tuesday, but Tolya didn't answer his calls," his family shared.

Extensive Search Efforts

Concerned by the lack of contact, his relatives visited the dormitory and reported him missing to the police. Law enforcement officers, volunteers, and university students and staff have conducted multiple search operations. They focused on the Podgora microdistrict, an area where his phone's last signal was detected.

Investigators interviewed his neighbors at the dormitory, but no information was obtained. Rescuers from the North Kazakhstan Region Department of Emergency Situations also participated in the search, employing visual shoreline inspections from boats, drone surveillance, and underwater investigations.

Discovery and Theories

On May 9, his jacket and headphones were found among bushes. "Beyond that, there are no other traces... For us, this is a terrible mystery. We have no theories about where Tolya could have gone. He was a very disciplined, quiet, and sensible boy. He didn't associate with any bad company and had no suspicious behavior. He studied well in school, loves to read, is educated and developed. He got into university on a grant and received a scholarship," his relatives stated.

They have been living in agonizing uncertainty for over nine months. Police have suggested the possibility of suicide, but his family categorically rejects this theory.

Ongoing Investigation

The press service of the Regional Police Department confirmed that the search for Anatoly Filippov is ongoing. His relatives are actively disseminating information on social media as part of their own search efforts.

A description has been circulated: he is 175 cm tall, slender, with short black hair, and has a post-operative scar on his hip. Anyone with information about Anatoly is urged to contact their nearest police station or call 102.
