Rapper De Lacure Called to Police After YouTube Show Story Sparks Controversy

Almaty, Kazakhstan – Rapper De Lacure found himself facing police questioning after a story he shared on the YouTube show "Maghan Uyath" (Shame on Me) ignited public controversy. While initially drawing widespread criticism, a subsequent investigation by authorities concluded that the rapper's words had been misrepresented.

The incident began when snippets from an unaired segment of the "Maghan Uyath" show circulated on social media. In the clips, the musician recounted a personal story that many viewers found disturbing, prompting calls for a legal assessment of his and his companions' actions.

Understanding the "Shame on Me" Show

"Maghan Uyath" is an entertainment-focused YouTube program where comedians, bloggers, and guests share personal, often awkward or "shameful," life experiences. The show aims to create relatable and humorous content from these anecdotes.

The Rapper's Account

According to audience members present during the filming, De Lacure's story was a recollection from the past. He described walking with friends when they heard cries for help. Upon investigating, they found an injured woman and attempted to assist her. However, one of his friends then asked the others to leave, stating he would handle the situation himself. After the others departed, the rapper implied that an assault occurred with the woman.

Police Investigation and Findings

The Almaty City Police Department confirmed that officers from the Medeu District Police Department investigated the rapper's statements. De Lacure was brought in for questioning.

"It was determined to be a segment from a creative show, where the author, according to him, narrated an event from 2012. During the investigation, he stated that his words were distorted on social media and that no acts of violence occurred," the police reported.

The rapper clarified that he was invited to a stand-up show in Almaty in 2025 to recount an event that happened in the summer of 2012 in the Alga-Bas microdistrict. "I met a woman at night with my friends, we wanted to help her. Our friend said he would help her himself, and then there was mutual intimate contact between them, let's put it that way. Before that, no one contacted me about this, I did not accept any applications, and I myself make no claims," the rapper stated.

Police announced that they found no evidence confirming the rapper's commission of any criminal offense. "Currently, no objective data confirming the fact of a criminal offense has been identified. Investigative measures have been completed," the police added.

Previously, Saltanat Azirbek, an official representative of the Almaty City Police Department, had stated that the police were investigating the rapper's actions. "If the facts are confirmed, a legal assessment will definitely be given. But as sometimes happens in practice: anything can be said for hype. Therefore, such situations exist, we do not deny it," Azirbek had commented.

Context from the Show's Host

The controversy surrounding De Lacure intensified after a statement from comedian Zarina Baibolova, the host of "Maghan Uyath." She described the story shared by the rapper as "disgusting" and mentioned that a decision was made not to release that particular segment.

Later, Zarina Baibolova elaborated on social media, explaining the situation during filming. She noted that the segment was recorded on April 20, 2025, in Almaty. Several episodes were filmed consecutively that day, with the rapper's show being the last. She acknowledged that the team was tired when he shared his story and admitted they did not react appropriately at the moment, unsure if the story was real, fabricated, or a provocation.

"We apologize for not immediately determining the direction and not showing the necessary reaction," she wrote. Baibolova added that they should have at least stopped the filming and left the stage. However, with over 100 audience members present, the team tried to salvage the recording. She understood the reaction of Kazakhstanis, noting that the situation did not seem plausible given the large audience.

She later confirmed to a journalist that a report had been filed with the police.
