Closing arguments have begun in the trial of Sultan Sarsemaliyev, accused of killing four members of a single family in the Atyrau region. The prosecutor asked the court to find him guilty and sentence him to life imprisonment, reports infohub.kz.
The high-profile case is being heard in the specialized inter-district criminal court of the Atyrau region. Sarsemaliyev is accused of murdering the father, mother, brother, and sister of his ex-wife, Akbayan Mukangaliyeva. The tragedy occurred in late 2025 in the village of Zhangeldino.
During the closing arguments, the prosecutor requested that the defendant be found guilty under multiple articles of the Criminal Code and serve his sentence in a maximum-security facility.
"Based on Part 4 of Article 58 of the Criminal Code, I request that Sultan Sarsemaliyev be sentenced to life imprisonment," the prosecutor said.
Sarsemaliyev faces charges of murder of two or more persons, murder of a person in a helpless state, murder with extreme cruelty and for mercenary motives, as well as committing a crime involving robbery or extortion.
Additionally, he is charged under articles on large-scale theft and fraud, cattle rustling, and illegal possession, concealment, destruction, or damage of documents.
The prosecutor also asked the court to order the defendant to pay compensation to the victims in the amount of 30 monthly calculation indices, equivalent to 129,750 tenge. Additionally, he requested reimbursement of procedural costs totaling 2,512,128 tenge and that the defendant remain in custody pending trial.
The prosecutor also asked the court to satisfy the civil claims of the victims for compensation of material and moral damages.
Sultan Sarsemaliyev stated that he does not admit guilt for the intentional murder of Nauryz Mukangaliyev.
After the closing arguments, the defendant will be given the last word. Then the court will retire to the deliberation room to deliver a verdict.
