Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has revoked a previously issued decree scheduling parliamentary elections for November 28, 2026, and ordered that presidential and parliamentary elections be held simultaneously on September 11, 2027, according to infohub.kz.
As reported by the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the decision was made in accordance with a resolution of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
Under the new decree, the document provides for free and direct elections. During the vote, Palestinians living in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip will be able to elect the President of Palestine and members of the Palestinian Legislative Council.
It is noted that the decision was made following nationwide consultations with Palestinian political parties and factions.
It is also reported that Israel's actions created obstacles to holding elections within the previously set timeframe. Accordingly, to organize a free, fair, and comprehensive vote, it is necessary to create the appropriate political conditions and ensure security and a favorable environment on the ground.
