Agility Robotics has unveiled its humanoid robot Digit 5, programmed with workplace safety rules: the machine can now squat and yield when it detects a person nearby, according to infohub.kz.
The developers equipped the new model with an advanced motion recognition system. As soon as the robot spots a person nearby, it instantly stops, changes its path, or automatically assumes a squatting position that visually resembles a gesture of respect. This mechanism is designed to completely eliminate accidental health risks for factory and warehouse workers.
Company representatives emphasize that workplace safety was the top priority in creating the new model. Previous generations of robots from other companies have repeatedly been involved in incidents where the devices injured people. To avoid such risks and comply with OSHA standards, the developers integrated artificial intelligence algorithms and a suite of sensors.
Beyond its built-in safety systems, the robot boasts solid technical specifications. The device's battery provides 90 minutes of autonomous operation, and it can lift loads weighing up to 22 kilograms and reach shelves at heights over 2 meters. The manufacturer expects the robot to become a full-fledged assistant at industrial facilities.
