Following a massive blackout on August 14, 2026, Almaty's city services are operating in an enhanced mode, reports infohub.kz.
The city administration stated that due to an emergency imbalance of power in the energy system, there was a temporary outage of external power supply. All services are taking necessary measures to ensure the city's vital functions.
Due to the power outage, the metro has been temporarily suspended. Stations are closed for entry and exit until voltage is restored to the contact rail. Further notice will be given on resumption of service.
Medical facilities continue to operate according to their continuity plans. Hospitals are equipped with backup power sources - diesel generators and UPS systems. Priority for backup power is given to intensive care units, operating rooms, emergency departments, and other critical equipment. Emergency medical care is being provided as usual.
In some areas, temporary drops in water pressure and interruptions in water supply may occur, especially on upper floors of buildings. This is due to the shutdown of electric pumping stations. Once power is restored, the pumping stations will be restarted and water supply will gradually resume.
The akimat, together with city services, continues to monitor the situation and is taking all measures to ensure the stable operation of life-support facilities. Further updates will be provided. Residents are urged to remain calm and trust only official sources of information.
Recall that today a large-scale blackout occurred in Almaty and the Almaty region. According to the Ministry of Energy, the cause was a power surge in the energy system caused by a sharp change in electricity flow from the Central Asian energy system. Emergency automation was triggered, leading to the disconnection of some consumers in several regions of Kazakhstan.
