Starting August 1, Almaty will change the traffic pattern for public transport on Nauryzbay Batyr Street to make way for a new bike lane, reports infohub.kz.
The changes will apply to the section from Raiymbek Avenue to Abay Avenue. The dedicated bus lane will be removed and replaced with a segregated bike lane.
According to the Almaty Urban Mobility Department, bus routes currently running along Nauryzbay Batyr will be redirected to Zheltoksan Street. This will free up space for cyclists. Since December 2025, a new BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) line has been operating there.
“The changes are aimed at improving cyclist safety, developing urban cycling infrastructure, and more efficiently distributing traffic flows,” the department said.
Drivers and other road users are urged to plan their routes accordingly.
The BRT line on Zheltoksan Street was under construction from late April 2025. According to public procurement data, the line cost over 4 billion tenge and is expected to last at least seven years.
The new bike lane could partially address the issue of e-scooter mobility. Starting August 25, e-scooters will be banned from sidewalks in Almaty.
