Forty-eight landslide-prone areas have been identified in Almaty's Medeu District, with anti-landslide work completed at 18 of them and 30 still under the akimat's supervision, the website infohub.kz reports.
Medeu District Akim Yerkebulan Orazalin announced this at a briefing held by the Regional Communications Service. According to him, a required list of engineering works has been determined for each problem area together with government agencies and experts.
"Forty-eight landslide-prone areas have been identified in the district. The district akimat is directly carrying out work at 12 areas, of which four remain in progress. To date, comprehensive anti-landslide measures have been completed at 18 areas. Another 30 areas remain under supervision, and work on them continues," Orazalin said.
At another eight areas, work is being carried out by property owners in accordance with conclusions from expert organizations. Depending on the condition of the territory, they are reinforcing slopes and retaining structures, as well as performing other work to stabilize the soil.
The akim noted that since 2024, the number of potentially dangerous areas in Medeu District has reached 87.
The akimat stated that the main task is to carry out the necessary work before a critical situation arises and to reduce the risk of emergencies in the foothill part of Almaty.
