On the first day of the new school year, the Almaty metro faced a sharp increase in passenger numbers. In the first half of the day alone, the subway carried about 40,000 people, reports infohub.kz.
According to the metro's press service, from 6:20 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on September 1, approximately 40,000 passengers used the metro. Due to the start of the school year, the train schedule was adjusted: during morning and evening rush hours, intervals between trains were reduced to 3 minutes 27 seconds.
The press service noted that the metro continues to monitor passenger flow to ensure comfortable and safe service.
Earlier, there were reports of a large influx of people in the Almaty subway, as well as unusually empty roads on September 1: traffic congestion levels ranged from 3 to 6 points.
Recall that the day before, the Almaty city administration recommended that companies switch some employees to remote work in the first days of September, setting an example themselves. Motorists were also advised to give up personal transport in favor of public transport.
