A brief stop to drop off a passenger is not in itself a violation, but drivers must obey road signs and traffic rules, reports infohub.kz.
The Almaty Police Department has denied reports that taxi drivers are being fined for stopping to drop off passengers at the airport. Earlier, drivers on social media complained about fines of 21,600 tenge after brief stops near the terminals. Some even said they were refusing airport orders for fear of penalties.
Police explained that in some areas of the airport, "No Parking" signs are installed, but there are designated drop-off zones marked with appropriate signs. However, in the published video, in addition to sign 3.28, signs 3.27 "No Stopping" were also visible. According to a more recent video from a taxi driver, these signs have already been replaced.
According to traffic rules, stopping to pick up or drop off passengers is allowed even where parking is prohibited, provided the driver complies with traffic regulations and the stop does not exceed the allowed time. Thus, a brief stop to drop off a passenger is not grounds for administrative liability. However, if a driver violates road sign requirements or other traffic rules, they may be held accountable.
Police also reminded that drivers who disagree with a decision have the right to appeal it in the established order.
