In Almaty, restoration work continues after a massive blackout that occurred today, August 14. Currently, about 90% of traffic lights in the city are connected to the power supply and operating normally, according to infohub.kz.
The Almaty city administration's Telegram channel noted that traffic light systems are being restarted in stages. Specialists are checking equipment and restarting systems at the remaining locations. Where technical faults are found, necessary repairs are carried out.
Work will continue until all traffic lights in the city are fully operational.
Earlier today, a large-scale blackout occurred in Almaty and the Almaty region. According to the Ministry of Energy, the cause was a power surge in the energy system, triggered by a sharp change in electricity flow from the Central Asian energy system. As a result, emergency automation was activated, leading to power outages for some consumers in several regions of Kazakhstan.
Due to the traffic light outage, traffic jams formed on the roads, and residents took it upon themselves to direct traffic. Also, due to the complete loss of external power supply, the metro temporarily suspended operations, but later resumed normal service. The Almaty police were placed on heightened alert.
