An emergency operation at the Almaty City Perinatal Center turned into a fight for two lives: a 40-year-old woman at 35 weeks of pregnancy not only underwent a cesarean section but also had a giant tumor removed, reports Kursiv media.

According to the medical facility, the patient was admitted with premature rupture of membranes. An examination revealed impaired fetal blood circulation, requiring emergency delivery. During the surgery, doctors discovered a fibroid measuring 20×25 centimeters and a pronounced adhesive process in which the intestine was fused to the uterus.

An oncogynecologist from the Almaty Oncology Center, Raikhan Bolatbekova, was involved in the operation. Through joint efforts, the medical team not only delivered the baby but also removed the tumor weighing 5.1 kilograms, preserving the patient's uterus and reproductive function. "Ultimately, through joint efforts, the doctors managed not only to deliver the baby but also to remove a tumor weighing 5.1 kilograms, preserving the patient's uterus and reproductive function. This gives the woman the opportunity to become a mother again in the future," the statement said.

The newborn boy weighed 2.2 kilograms and was born prematurely, but after observation in the intensive care unit, his condition stabilized. The mother and baby have now been discharged home and are feeling well.

It is noted that fibroids typically weigh from a few grams to 800 grams, but in advanced cases they can reach several kilograms. Earlier, it was reported that 30 cases of cancer were detected in Kazakhstan in one day.
