Six residents of Astana fell victim to a fraudster who promised to help them obtain driver's licenses. In total, they handed over 2.3 million tenge, but the man failed to fulfill his obligations, reports infohub.kz.
According to the prosecutor's office, the fraudster convinced citizens that he could resolve the issue through acquaintances. After receiving the money, he spent it on personal needs without providing any services.
During the trial, the prosecutor fully proved the defendant's guilt. The court, taking into account his confession and partial compensation for damages, sentenced him to restriction of liberty for 3 years and 6 months. In addition, the convict was placed under probation supervision and will be required to perform 100 hours of community service annually throughout the term of his sentence.
The man was also subjected to several obligations: a ban on changing his place of residence or work without notifying the probation service, a ban on visiting entertainment venues associated with alcohol consumption, an obligation to register as unemployed if he is not working, and a restriction on being outside his home at night (from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.).
The verdict has already entered into legal force. The Astana prosecutor's office urges citizens to be vigilant and not to give money to individuals who promise to resolve issues outside the law, but to use only official channels for obtaining government services.
