A 33-year-old man has been detained in Kazakhstan's capital on suspicion of stealing two batteries from a truck. The incident occurred early in the morning when the suspect broke into the battery compartment of a Shacman vehicle and stole the property, reports infohub.kz.

According to the Astana police department, the suspect acted cautiously: he returned to the truck twice, each time carrying out one battery. His actions were captured by surveillance cameras, which allowed police to quickly identify the thief.

Police say the stolen batteries were sold through vehicle service stations, and the proceeds were spent on personal needs. The total damage amounted to 200,000 tenge.

The suspect was detained in the capital and placed in a temporary detention facility. A pre-trial investigation into the theft is underway.

Law enforcement officers remind vehicle owners to strengthen security measures and not leave property unattended.
