In Kazakhstan's capital, a long-running saga involving defrauded shareholders has been resolved: 350 families, who were supposed to move into new homes back in 2022, have finally celebrated their housewarming. Their rights were protected thanks to the intervention of the prosecutor's office, reports infohub.kz.
According to the supervisory authority, in 2020 citizens invested funds in the construction of a residential complex, but the developer failed to fulfill its obligations for five years. The prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit on behalf of 350 shareholders, and as a result, the unfinished building was transferred to a newly established housing cooperative. This allowed construction to be completed, and people finally received their long-awaited keys.
The prosecutor's office also noted that since the beginning of this year, courts have satisfied 11 lawsuits filed by prosecutors in defense of 277 shareholders, totaling 3.9 billion tenge. Work to ensure legality in the sphere of shared construction remains under constant supervision of the prosecutor's office.
In light of the increasing cases of fraud against shareholders, the capital's prosecutor's office urges citizens to check for the relevant construction permit before buying an apartment in a building under construction.
