Nearly 300 mm of rain pounded Thailand's capital over three days, overwhelming canals, flooding roads and seeping into homes. Authorities declared a disaster zone across all 50 districts of Bangkok, infohub.kz reports.
According to the government's press service, the disaster declaration was extended to all 50 districts of the city.
Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said the eastern part of Bangkok was the worst hit.
"We are trying to pump out the water, but the canals are overflowing," AFP quoted the governor as saying.
In some areas, water entered homes and businesses located along the canals. In the On Nut area, residents waded through knee-deep water on flooded roads and filled sandbags to protect their homes.
City authorities instructed district services to set up temporary shelters in schools, assist residents with limited mobility and restore traffic on flooded streets. People whose property was damaged are advised to keep photos of the damage for assistance claims.
