Famed American costume designer and fashion designer Bob Mackie, known as the "Sultan of Sequins" and "Rajah of Rhinestones," has died at the age of 87. His heart stopped on September 14 in Palm Springs due to pneumonia, reports infohub.kz.
According to CNN, Mackie turned stage costumes into true art and transformed pop stars into deities.
Mackie dressed the planet's biggest divas — Cher, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Liza Minnelli, and Dolly Parton. In 1974, he created a sheer "naked" dress with feathers for Cher. At the time, the public was shocked, but today the outfit is considered iconic.
During his 11 years working on the popular TV show "The Carol Burnett Show," Mackie created an incredible 17,000 costumes. Over his career, he received nine Emmy Awards, three Oscar nominations, and a prestigious Tony Award.
Modern stars also admired Mackie's unique style. Zendaya, Miley Cyrus, and Sabrina Carpenter have worn his archival outfits on stage and on red carpets.
Many celebrities expressed their condolences on social media. The designer is survived by his granddaughter, two great-granddaughters, and his ex-wife.
