In September 2026, China's BYD once again topped the ranking of new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturers, selling 456,700 units — more than four times as many as second-place Leapmotor. The list includes both pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, according to infohub.kz.

Of BYD's September sales, 273,100 vehicles were electric cars, while another 183,600 were plug-in hybrids. Outside China, the company sold 180,700 vehicles. From January to September, BYD sold nearly 3.1 million vehicles.

Leapmotor has delivered 665,500 vehicles since the start of the year — 66.7% of its annual target of 1 million vehicles. In September, the brand's sales rose 59% to 105,600 vehicles. About 27,000 of them were shipped abroad.

Changan Nevo came third with 45,600 passenger cars. It was followed by Xpeng (41,200) and Xiaomi (about 40,000).

Over the nine months, Xiaomi sold 269,000 vehicles, including more than 10,000 Skynomad crossovers in September. The company's annual target is 550,000 vehicles, meaning it has fulfilled 48.9% so far.

Zeekr was eighth with 37,200 vehicles. The brand's sales grew 103.85% year-on-year, reaching 288,400 electric vehicles and hybrids from January to September.

The ranking also included Lynk & Co, which recently started taking orders for its flagship 900 in Kazakhstan. In September, the brand sold 18,400 vehicles and took 13th place. In the first nine months of the year, Lynk & Co's sales fell 19% year-on-year.

The final gap between BYD and Leapmotor exceeded 351,000 vehicles for the month. Meanwhile, almost 60% of BYD's sales were electric vehicles, with the rest being plug-in hybrids.
