Christa Pike, an American woman who survived two lethal injections, has spoken about her condition a month after the failed execution. This was reported by infohub.kz.

According to a statement from Pike's defense team, a month has now passed since the woman entered the execution chamber. Because of the failed execution, she is in constant pain.

"A few days later I woke up in the hospital alone, confused and in pain. Since that night there has not been a moment when I have not felt pain. My body hurts, my arms, my hands, my throat. I still find it difficult to speak," the statement says, which Pike dictated to her lawyers.

The convicted woman stressed that since the execution she has been held in near-total isolation in the prison medical unit, feeling as though she has returned to the conditions of the solitary confinement cell where she spent 28 years before the execution.

Christa Pike also thanked the doctors and emergency workers who helped her after the failed administration of the lethal injections. "I don't know why I survived that night. I don't know what will happen next," she added, stressing that she is trying to recover day by day.

It was previously reported that Christa Pike had spent nearly 30 years awaiting the execution of her death sentence. The woman was found guilty of the brutal murder of a fellow student in 1995. Pike was due to become the first woman executed in Tennessee since 1819.

In 1995, when she was 18, Pike, along with her boyfriend and another person, killed 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer. Pike was the only participant in the case to receive a death sentence.

It was later reported that the woman sentenced to death survived two lethal injections in the US. After that, Pike's lawyers said she had been returned to prison.
