Cooluli, a company based in Chicago, is recalling approximately 250,000 mini-refrigerators due to fire and burn hazards, according to a Thursday notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), as reported by infohub.kz.
The recalled “10-Liter” and “15-Liter” mini-fridges have an electric switch that can short circuit. As Cooluli explained on its website, in some older units, the selector switch that toggles between Cooling and Warming modes can overheat. The CPSC has received at least 19 reports of the products smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating, or catching fire. These incidents have resulted in property damages totaling more than $80,000, and one customer reported smoke inhalation.
The recall covers mini-fridges sold on Cooluli's website and Amazon between January 2019 and October 2024, priced between $80 and $120. Only certain models of 10-Liter and 15-Liter mini-fridges with an internal power supply are affected. The company noted that this is limited to specific older production batches, so most Cooluli refrigerators are not affected. Newer models with an external power supply are not included in the recall.
To address the issue, the Brooklyn, New York-founded company will send affected customers a free repair kit. Consumers should visit Cooluli's website to check their model number. If their mini-fridge is covered by the recall, they should follow instructions on how to cut the power cord and submit photos to request a free replacement. In the meantime, consumers are urged to stop using the recalled fridges immediately.
