The wife of Olympic boxing champion Daniyar Yeleussinov has been found guilty of assaulting two women in Karaganda, reports website infohub.kz.
The incident occurred in winter this year in a house in the Maykuduk district. According to case materials, the defendant visited her 81-year-old grandfather, who complained about a conflict with his neighbors. She then decided to confront them personally and went to their home.
The victims said they heard persistent knocking on the door late in the evening. When they opened it, they saw the neighbor's granddaughter, whom they had known since childhood. The conversation immediately turned into a conflict. "She introduced herself, then immediately started swearing. I didn't understand what was happening or why she was accusing me. Then she kicked me twice in the stomach, grabbed me by the hair, and held me. It happened so quickly that I didn't have time to react," one victim, Asel, said in court.
During the altercation, the defendant's grandfather entered the apartment. The women claimed he also joined the scuffle and struck Asel's mother. After they were pushed out the door, they continued banging and kicking the front door.
Following the incident, the women went to the police and a hospital. Forensic medical examinations revealed that the elderly woman suffered a ruptured finger tendon and a mild concussion, while her daughter had soft tissue bruising.
The defendant pleaded not guilty. In court, she said she came to defend her grandfather, who had repeatedly complained about the neighbors, and acted in self-defense. "My grandfather told me he was constantly insulted. When a verbal conflict arose between us, the woman showed aggression first. I was just defending myself," she said.
After reviewing the case, the court concluded that the self-defense argument was not substantiated. "The defendant's guilt is fully confirmed by the totality of evidence, including forensic medical reports, victim and witness testimonies. The court critically assessed the self-defense argument and found it inconsistent with the actual circumstances of the case," said Judge Bakhtiyar Akanov when announcing the verdict.
The court found the defendant guilty and imposed a fine of 100 monthly calculation indices (393,200 tenge at the time). Additionally, the court ordered her to pay each victim 500,000 tenge in moral damages, as well as reimburse the victims' legal representation costs of 1 million tenge.
The victims also have the right to file a civil claim for medical expenses. The victims' lawyer, Nursultan Bigozhin, called the verdict a logical conclusion to a lengthy investigation. "For six months we sought to hold the defendant criminally liable. The court made a lawful and justified decision," he said.
After the verdict, the defendant declined to comment but stated during the trial that she intends to appeal. Separately, Daniyar Yeleussinov was arrested in early July and had his driver's license suspended; police in the capital released footage of his detention following a traffic accident.
