Footage and student accounts of a stampede in the cloakroom at School No. 99 in Astana have spread on social media. According to Astanovka98, children reported injuries, and some students allegedly suffocated and fainted, reports infohub.kz.

The education department responded promptly to the incident. The department explained that the crush was caused by a scheduling failure for the second shift, which led students from seven classes to head to the cloakroom simultaneously after classes ended. As a result, a brief crowding of children occurred in the outerwear area.

"A review of surveillance camera footage did not confirm the information that a student lost consciousness and fell," the department emphasized.

The school has already increased staff supervision near the cloakroom and taken additional measures to ensure student safety.

"In connection with the incident, the cloakroom attendant has been dismissed. The school principal has been relieved of her position," the press service added.

It is worth noting that in early September 2026, a complaint from parents appeared on social media about the organization of student entry and exit at IT School-Lyceum No. 80 in Shymkent. According to the parents, the school has only one entrance door, which cannot handle the flow of students.
