Didier Deschamps will leave his post as head coach of the France national team after the 2026 World Cup. The French Football Federation announced this on social media platform X, reports infohub.kz.
The federation stated that Deschamps will officially step down in a few days.
"Some careers forever become part of a country's history. Deschamps' contribution goes far beyond 185 matches and 120 victories. He instilled a culture of striving for wins and responsibility that will remain a benchmark for future generations. He helped many national team players develop, united different generations around common values, and strengthened the special bond between the national team and the French people," the federation said.
The French Football Federation expressed gratitude to Didier Deschamps for his years of work.
It is worth noting that England beat France 6-4 to win the bronze medal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Earlier, some media outlets reported that Zinedine Zidane could replace Deschamps as France head coach after the 2026 World Cup. His refusal to take over Real Madrid from Xabi Alonso was also linked to the impending appointment.
Recently, renowned sports journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that after France's semi-final failure at the World Cup, legendary Zinedine Zidane will take over as head coach.
