American media giant The Walt Disney Company is preparing another large-scale wave of layoffs that could affect several thousand employees worldwide. Leaders of individual corporate divisions have already been instructed to find ways to cut annual costs by as much as 20 percent, infohub.kz reports.

Leading business publications, including Variety, reported the impending cuts, citing informed sources. The new workforce reduction campaign will be the media company's largest this year and extends a series of crisis measures under new CEO Josh D'Amaro, who took the helm at Disney in early 2026.

Since the start of the year, the entertainment conglomerate has already carried out three rounds of layoffs: in April about a thousand specialists lost their jobs, mostly in marketing departments; in July the cuts hit animation studio Pixar; and in September roughly 300 more positions were eliminated.

The latest move is intended to offset slowing attendance at international theme parks, intensifying competition in the streaming market and a decline in box office revenue. Chief Human Resources Officer Sonia Coleman had earlier warned staff in a corporate letter that the business restructuring would inevitably entail involuntary job losses.

The exact scale of the layoffs and the lists of affected departments have not yet been officially disclosed. Disney management is expected to present details of its financial recovery on November 17 during the release of its fourth-quarter report.

The situation at the company reflects a broader crisis in the industry, with Netflix, Sony Pictures and Skydance also announcing cost reductions.
