On August 24, 2026, at 19:31 Astana time, the seismic station network of NNCSSN LLP registered an earthquake, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, which released information on its Telegram channel, the epicenter was located in Kazakhstan, 257 kilometers southeast of Almaty. The epicenter coordinates are 49.117°N, 84.500°E.
The estimated intensity was 2 points. The tremors were felt by residents of the village of Ulken-Naryn in the East Kazakhstan region.
The ministry reminded the public of 10 simple safety rules during an earthquake:
1. Stay calm, do not panic!
2. Do not use the elevator or stairs during the tremors.
3. Move away from furniture, windows, and chandeliers.
4. Find a sturdy shelter: if you are on upper floors, take a place in the corner of load-bearing walls.
5. Leave the building (in multi-story buildings, after the tremors stop).
6. Turn off water, gas, and electricity.
7. Take your emergency kit (prepared in advance).
8. Stay away from power lines, buildings, and trees.
9. Be prepared for aftershocks.
10. Help the elderly and people with disabilities.
