In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the death toll from Ebola has surpassed 2,300, making this outbreak the deadliest in the country's history, according to infohub.kz.
According to the Congolese government, at least 2,325 people have died from Ebola. The country's public health institute reported that the number of confirmed cases has reached 4,945, including 101 new cases identified in the last 24 hours.
The current outbreak has already surpassed the previous epidemic of 2018-2020 in terms of deaths, becoming the deadliest in the DRC's history. The World Health Organization warns that the current outbreak could also surpass the West African epidemic of 2014-2016, when 28,616 cases and 11,325 deaths were recorded in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.
The United Nations has expressed concern that Ebola is "winning in Congo," noting that the epidemic claims a life every 30 minutes. The disease has spread to six of the country's 26 provinces, mainly along the northeastern border. More than 3,400 cases have been registered in Ituri province, where the outbreak began.
