In the city of Chongqing in southwestern China, a mountain slope collapse killed eight people, with 34 others missing. Ten people were rescued from the rubble, reports site infohub.kz.
According to the Xinhua News Agency, a massive collapse of rock and soil occurred suddenly in the Hanjia Pengshui Miao-Tujia Autonomous County, burying over a dozen residential buildings at the foot of the mountain. Three power transmission towers were buried, cutting electricity to the affected area. Local power authorities mobilized 53 emergency workers and 12 repair vehicles, as well as one mobile platform for emergency power supply.
Footage of the tragedy has emerged on social media. According to Fox News, an unknown number of people remain trapped under debris. Authorities say more than 1,100 people have been evacuated from the danger zone. The collapse was triggered by heavy rains that caused a landslide.
