A refusal to undress down to his underwear for a search has earned an inmate additional prison time: a court in Pavlodar added 1.5 years to his sentence and sent him to a maximum-security colony, the website infohub.kz reports.

According to case materials, in September 2023 a 20-year-old resident of Ekibastuz was convicted of raping two sisters, girls aged 8 and 13. He was a minor himself at the time of the crime. The young man was then sentenced to 8 years in prison and sent to serve his term at institution No. 46.

According to the publication, in the colony he acquired a reputation as a persistent violator of the established order: he did not shave and refused to report as duty officer. He ended up in court after a search for prohibited items.

A colony employee described the circumstances. "In March 2026, after the morning check, I went with colleagues to conduct a search in a unit with strict conditions of serving sentences. First we conducted a full search of the premises, and then individually searched the convicts. The convicts were supposed to undress down to their underwear. This convict refused to undress, did not want to comply with lawful demands, and showed aggression," the deputy head of the operational department of institution No. 46 testified, according to the verdict of the Pavlodar criminal court.

A criminal case was opened over the fact of insubordination, and the inmate again found himself before a court. After reviewing the materials, character references and testimony, the court concluded that his guilt was proven. As a result, the convict was given an additional 1.5 years in prison and sent to serve his sentence in a maximum-security colony.
