Epic Games is steering toward the active adoption of artificial intelligence in game development. Management is requiring employees to use neural networks at every stage of production, and in one project, it is said, the company intends to do without any hand-written code at all, according to the website infohub.kz.
According to Bloomberg, because of the shift in approach, Epic Games has delayed a major shooter that was to bring together characters from the Marvel and Star Wars universes. The game was initially planned for release in 2027, but the timeline has now been pushed back indefinitely.
The most radical requirement concerns the development of the game. One of the executives said the project should contain "not a single line of hand-written code." Programming and even the creation of the visuals are to be entrusted to Claude and other artificial intelligence models.
Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed that the company is changing its approach to work. On social media platform X, he even wrote that the company is reassigning developers to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence.
"Our goal is not to do the same thing with fewer people, but to give everyone the ability to create more and better," Sweeney said.
However, Epic's own employees are shocked by what is happening and doubt that the new approach will prove viable. Whether this experiment will succeed remains to be seen. And for now, it is unclear whether players will want to spend dozens of hours in a game created entirely by neural networks.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle wrote that Bill Gates proposed taxing companies that replace employees with robots and artificial intelligence. According to him, he would slow this shift away from human labor and would bring in money for retraining human workers and a stronger social safety net.
