A tragedy occurred in the Bostandyk district of Almaty: a young woman died under the wheels of public transport. Footage from dashcams and surveillance cameras capturing the moments before the accident was released by the city police department, as reported by infohub.kz.
According to law enforcement, the incident took place on Mustafin Street. The bus was heading south when a 30-year-old woman appeared at an unmarked crosswalk.
The released footage shows the pedestrian stepping onto the zebra crossing as a bus approaches. The driver failed to react in time and brake, resulting in a collision. The injuries were fatal: the victim died at the scene before medics arrived.
Patrol police officers and an investigative team promptly arrived at the scene. A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the fatal accident.
"Police officers immediately began determining all circumstances of the incident. A criminal case has been opened regarding the accident. The inquiry is now establishing the causes and circumstances of the tragedy," the press service of the Almaty Police Department commented.
As part of the criminal case, a set of necessary forensic examinations has been ordered to provide a legal assessment of the driver's actions and establish the exact causes of what happened.
