A fatal traffic accident occurred on the new suspension bridge in Semey, claiming one life. Footage from the scene was shared on social media, and an official comment was provided by the police department of the Abai region, as reported by infohub.kz.
According to the department, the incident happened on August 23 at around 11:00 p.m. A Mitsubishi Pajero and a Lada Priora collided.
"According to preliminary data, the driver of the Mitsubishi Pajero lost control, hit a crash barrier, then veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a Lada Priora," the Abai regional police department reported.
The published footage shows the SUV overturned on its side. As police explained, a passenger in the Mitsubishi Pajero died at the scene.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the violation of traffic rules resulting in a death by negligence. A range of investigative and procedural actions are currently underway to establish all circumstances of the incident. A final procedural decision will be made based on the investigation results.
