In Almaty on August 22, a fire alarm went off at the Mega Alma-Ata shopping and entertainment center, prompting the evacuation of visitors. Fire crews arrived at the scene, reports infohub.kz.
Videos of the evacuation quickly spread on social media.
The city's emergency department clarified that the elevated response level was not confirmed, and no open flames were found.
"No open fire was detected. Why the automatic fire alarm went off will be determined by specialists," the press service of the Emergency Department said.
In the official Instagram account of Mega Alma-Ata, it was also stated that there is no threat to life and health, and the mall continues to operate normally.
"Dear visitors! A fire alarm went off at Mega Alma-Ata. The situation is under control, all systems are operating normally. The mall continues to work. There is no threat to the life and health of visitors. We are currently conducting an inspection and determining the circumstances of the incident. Thank you for your understanding," the mall's statement read.
The cause of the alarm is being investigated.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Mega Alma-Ata attracted social media users' attention after a video appeared showing about ten people dressed as Spider-Man on an escalator in the mall. Within a day, the clip garnered over 54,000 views.
