One of the victims of a fire in an Almaty residential complex has died despite resuscitation efforts by medics, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Almaty Emergency Situations Department (DES), on August 23 at 22:49, a fire was reported in a 13-story residential complex at 145 Adi Sharipov Street. Arriving within 5 minutes, the first fire crews found burning cables in the technical room and on the floors of the second entrance, as well as electrical panels from the 7th to the 13th floor of the first entrance.
Thanks to prompt action, the fire was contained at 23:57 and extinguished at 00:14. Using rescue hoods, 148 people, including 9 children, were evacuated via the stairwell. Four people were hospitalized.
One of the victims was found unconscious. Despite resuscitation efforts by medics on the scene, she could not be saved.
About 90 DES personnel and 25 pieces of equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire. The fire spread was facilitated by a late report: according to residents, the automatic fire alarm went off an hour and a half before the fire department was called, but no timely call was made to the fire service.
Earlier, following a fire safety inspection, responsible parties had been issued an order to eliminate identified violations of fire safety requirements. The cause of the fire is being determined.
