Flávio Bolsonaro, the far-right senator and eldest son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, has left the country for the United States following his defeat in the presidential election, infohub.kz reports.

The flight was reported by Brazilian outlet Metropoles, cited by The Guardian. Election winner Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva called the move "shameful."

"The plane is in flight," Bolsonaro's associates told journalists, without specifying the final destination.

According to the senator's allies, he will arrive in Florida and intends to request political asylum. "The Donald Trump administration has been informed," the statement said.

Incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won Brazil's presidential election. The losing Flávio Bolsonaro was ordered to surrender his passport as part of a money laundering case.
