Former Brazilian presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro, who left the country after losing the election, may soon seek permanent resident status in the US — a green card. Media report this, citing a New York Times article, according to infohub.kz.
After arriving in Miami, Bolsonaro received temporary permission to stay in the US. His trip on a private plane was organized by White House representative Jason Miller, RBC reports, citing a translation of The New York Times material.
Bolsonaro left Brazil after his election defeat and a Supreme Court demand to surrender his diplomatic passport amid a money laundering investigation. After arriving in Miami on a private flight organized by White House representative Jason Miller, he received temporary residency by order of US President Donald Trump. According to sources cited by the newspaper, US border officials allowed Bolsonaro and his family to enter under humanitarian parole.
An American official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The New York Times that Bolsonaro will soon apply for permanent resident status, or a green card, as his younger brother Eduardo did; Eduardo already resides permanently in the US.
Flávio's younger brother, Eduardo Bolsonaro, lives in Texas and maintains close ties with the Trump administration. His application for permanent residency was approved on an expedited basis, even though for most immigrants the process takes years, the newspaper noted.
Earlier it was reported that Bolsonaro, having lost the election, declared himself "leader of Brazil" in a letter to the people.
Recall that Brazil held presidential elections, won by incumbent head of state Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Flávio Bolsonaro, who lost the election, was ordered to surrender his passport as part of a money laundering case. Later it became known that the politician secretly left for the US.
