Flydubai has suspended flights to and from Israel until the investigation into an incident involving a flight that made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia is completed. The carrier announced this in an official statement, according to infohub.kz.
"Following the incident involving flight FZ 1073 on 30 September, and in coordination with the relevant authorities, Flydubai is suspending flights to and from Israel for the duration of the investigation," the airline said in its statement.
The carrier believes the suspension will allow the relevant authorities to continue their work and establish all the circumstances of what happened.
"We are fully committed to assisting the ongoing investigation and to upholding the highest safety standards across our entire network. We remain in close contact with government authorities, regulators and airport representatives, and will review the decision to suspend flights as new information becomes available," the statement said.
Recall that Israeli Air Force fighter jets were scrambled toward the aircraft. It later emerged that the plane had landed in Saudi Arabia. Flydubai then told Israeli television that a fight had broken out between the pilots on board the Dubai–Tel Aviv flight.
Soon after, the first photos and videos from the plane appeared. One image shows a passenger who is believed to have struggled with the attacker. Authorities are investigating the possibility that one of the pilots may have deliberately tried to crash the plane. It is believed that his actions were stopped by the co-pilot and Israeli passengers, who fought him and prevented a disaster.
Another version regarding the citizenship of the pilots was also voiced. After claims of Russian and Ukrainian citizenship, reports emerged that the pilots hold Omani and UAE citizenship.
Later, information appeared that one of the pilots may have died from stab wounds following the attack.
Media also reported that pilots from Ukraine and Russia were traveling as passengers and took control of the FlyDubai aircraft.
It later emerged that the pilot injured in the attack by a colleague on board the FlyDubai plane was Indian citizen Smit Machchhar.
